CEDAR CITY — A former Iron County sheriff's deputy has been charged with misusing public money.

Galen Bret Allred, 45, of Kanarraville, was charged Thursday in 5th District Court with four counts of misuse of public money, a third-degree felony.

Millard County Attorney Patrick Finlinson did not release many details about the case Friday, only saying that the charges stem from Allred's time as a deputy.

Allred resigned from the sheriff's office in February after more than two decades with the department, he said. Charging documents list the illegal activity happening on March 12, 2015, June 25, 2015, June 25, 2016, and Jan. 8, 2016.

According to the sheriff's office, Allred is the son of Kanarraville Mayor Galen Allred.
