WEST VALLEY CITY — At the Hale Center Theater in West Valley City, they're inviting the public to 'be their guest' with its production of Beauty and the Beast.

The magic of theater means few people get to see what really happens behind the scenes. On Wednesday, their guest was Tia, and the backstage doors opened just for her. Don't be fooled by her quiet voice or nervous laughter, the stage is where this 11-year-old wants to be.

"I like watching the costumes and how everything works and stuff," said Tia.

It's kind of like slipping away into a world where you can be someone else, even if it's just for a night. Tia laughed as she tried on one of the princess costumes backstage; however, this princess hasn't exactly lived a charmed life.

"Most of the time it's really hard, but I just try to deal with it," she said.

Tia lives in the Utah foster care system, "because my mom couldn't take care of me," she explained.

Now, what Tia deals with is constant moving, little stability and a lot of waiting.

"I'm not going back to my parents ever, so I have to just wait for an adoptive family," she said. "It's a little hard, but I know that (the state) is trying to find the best family for me."

A family. It's something Tia says she thinks about every single day. She especially thinks about what her future mother could be like.

"I hope she would be nice and excited to have me," she said.

Tia no longer wants to just 'be a guest' in another foster home, she's ready for her storybook happy ending.
