WEST VALLEY CITY — A West Valley man was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated kidnapping for allegedly tying up two teenage boys, one of whom was naked, and holding them captive for several hours after he believed they had disrespected his daughter.

Mohamed Shobi B. Mohamed-Sidik, 46, is also charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

Mohamed-Sidik allegedly tied up the first boy sometime after he came to the house around noon on Aug. 16. The boy told police he had been invited to the house and had gone into the bedroom of Mohamed-Sidik's daughter.

"(Mohamed-Sidik) became angry and asked why he had disrespected the daughter," court documents say.

The boy was allegedly tied up with wire, while naked, to a chair. Mohamed-Sidik also "threatened to place chili powder" on the boy's genitals and to make him drink water mixed with blood, charges state.

"(The teen) stated that (Mohamed-Sidik) held a large knife to his throat and told him that he would kill him if he yelled or screamed, or if he didn't apologize for the disrespectful way he talked about his daughter," according to the charges.

Later, court documents say Mohamed-Sidik forced the boy, at the threat of killing him, to call his friend and get him to come to the house. The second boy told police he came to the home, 1085 W. Parkway Ave., around 3 p.m.

The boy was under the impression that he was there to help with moving a dishwasher, court documents say.

"(He was) directed downstairs, where he was pushed from behind by (Mohamed-Sidik). … While (being) bound, (the teen) stated that (Mohamed-Sidik) threatened to kill him with the knife and was told that (he and the other teen) needed to apologize to (his) daughter," charges state. "(The boy) stated that he was unaware of how (Mohamed-Sidik's) daughter was treated badly."

The second boy was clothed while held captive, according to the charges.

The boys' exact ages are not detailed in court documents. A call to West Valley police for those details was not immediately returned.

Mohamed-Sidik allegedly took each of the boy's cellphones. His son, also a juvenile, helped him take the phone from at least one of the boys, according to court documents. It wasn't immediately clear Tuesday whether charges were also expected against Mohamed-Sidik's son.

One of the victims told police he was untied around 8 p.m., and he and his friend were "told to stay the night," the charges state.

"(The boy) said he was released the next morning at 10 a.m., but forced to sign a piece of paper stating that he had abused (Mohamed-Sidik's) daughter and that he and (his friend) were only allowed to leave with the promise that they would not contact the police. They were told that if they called police, he would kill them," court documents say.

The boy who came to the house second also said he and his friend were told to "bow down to the (Mohamed-Sidik's) daughter's feet and apologize for the way they had supposedly treated her," according to court documents.

Mohamed-Sidik admitted he tied the boys up, charges state.

"(Mohamed-Sidik) stated that he tied up (the boys), took their cellphones (and) a pocket knife, and interrogated them. (Mohamed-Sidik) stated that after he talked to the boys about the way they had treated his daughter, he pardoned them and untied them," according to the charges.

Mohamed-Sidik said he ate dinner with the boys and had them sign pieces of paper before they left. He provided those to an officer, as well as a knife, a pack of gum and some cigarettes he had allegedly taken from the boys, police reported.

Police have not elaborated on why Mohamed-Sidik believed his daughter had been disrespected. How he knew the boys was also unclear as of Tuesday.

Mohamed-Sidik is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail. No initial court date is scheduled in his case.

A search of court records indicates Mohamed-Sidik has no previous criminal history in Utah.
