SALT LAKE CITY — Nearly in single digits, only 10 days remain until the Utes step on the field against in-state Southern Utah University. With that, KSL.com takes a look at two players who will be wearing the No. 10 this season, Jason Thompson and Riley Richmond.

Jason Thompson, SR, defensive back

After playing a season at Wyoming, Jason Thompson transferred to Utah when his former head coach Dave Christensen became the Utes’ offensive coordinator. After Christensen left for a position with Texas A&M, however, Thompson decided to stay with Utah. He was originally a quarterback but has since changed positions to become a safety, where he currently sits as a backup to Chase Hansen, another former quarterback.

Thompson was ineligible to play during the regular season his first year in the program but helped the Utes roll to a Las Vegas Bowl victory over Colorado State by his involvement in some trick plays. The next year was his first switching to the defensive side of the ball, where he played in 11 games on special teams and four at the safety spot.

Despite not being a regular starter, Thompson has earned the status of captain for the 2016 season, which was voted on by his fellow teammates. Clearly respected on the team, the senior should crack the regular defensive back rotation while continuing to make appearances on special teams.

Riley Richmond, SO, wide receiver

Richmond is a relative unknown to most Ute fans, and it will most likely remain that way through 2016. With the wide receiver group pretty much set (though because of the group's uncertainty in the past, the position may lead to some opportunities), Richmond will unlikely find the field in a competitive environment during his sophomore campaign.

Richmond is an in-state product hailing from Murray High School, where he played quarterback for the Spartans. He committed to play at Snow College, where he made the transition to a receiver, but also still saw time at his old position. Here are some of his highlights as a Badger. Twitter: @GriffDoug
