STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR — Some people come to the banks of Strawberry Reservoir to escape from it all — to take in the serene vistas and calming atmosphere.
“Just being outdoors is so relaxing and peaceful,” Tommy said. He isn't at the reservoir to really escape from anything. It's more like he's searching for something.
"I guess it's just like the thrill when it's on. Just reeling it in. I just love the thrill of it,” he said.
Fishing. In the past, this avid fisherman has been stuck on shore. On this day, it is his first time fishing from a boat in the middle of it all — and he has some help.
Adam Eakle from The KSL Outdoors Show knows a thing or two about how to hook ’em.
But this isn't just some fish story.
Tommy loves the outdoors, but he's looking for a lot more than just his next big catch. Tommy is searching for a family because he lives in foster care.
“Someone that's there for you. Someone you can count on if you ever need somewhere to go. Just someone that's there for you,” he said.
When you spend your years moving from house to house, a day out fishing, they just never happen.
Tommy is trying his best to not give up — even though he feels the world's given up on him.
“It's difficult,” he said.
This 16-year-old isn't asking for much, just what every child deserves.
"I don't really know if anybody really has the perfect mom or dad, but as long as they like hunting and fishing, I’m pretty sure I’m good,” he said.
