SALT LAKE CITY — Three stories from the world of sports coming to you in today's From Left Field!
1. Olympic Village uninhabitable, says Australia
Welp, this isn't good. According to the Sydney Daily Herald, as of right now, the Olympic Village isn't ready for the large crash of athletes it's about to receive. Here's the key passage:
Last night (Saturday), we decided to do a “stress test” where taps and toilets were simultaneously turned on in apartments on several floors to see if the system could cope once the athletes are in-house. The system failed. Water came down walls, there was a strong smell of gas in some apartments and there was “shorting” in the electrical wiring. We were due to move into the Village on 21 July but we have been living in nearby hotels, because the Village is simply not safe or ready.
Belarus joined Australia in finding the conditions unlivable, and have also delayed their athletes' entry into the apartments.
2. Tim Duncan's post-retirement activity: shopping at Old Navy
I think it's fair to say most NBA superstars don't shop at Old Navy. Tim Duncan, though, is not most NBA superstars.
Where else do you think he gets outfits like this?
3. Kevin Durant's restaurant in OKC closes down
It appears Kevin Durant's restaurant in Oklahoma City is closing its doors, after the star chose to take his talents to the Bay Area earlier in July.
The Oklahoman reports that the restaurant will re-open later in the year with new branding and a new concept, but with a substantially similar menu. Still, that means no more review wars on the restaurant's Yelp page, for the time being, anyway.
