BOUNTIFUL — A woman was hospitalized in critical condition Monday after she was hit by a truck while she was crossing at a Bountiful intersection.

The woman, 54, was walking across an intersection with no crosswalk at 100 South and 200 West when she was struck by a truck. She was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital in critical condition, said Bountiful Police Lt. Dave Edwards.

The male driver said he did not see the woman who was crossing the street, Edwards said. After hitting the woman, the driver immediately rendered aid to her, trying to help her as much as he could until medical personnel arrived.

"The driver's been very cooperative with us," Edwards said Monday. "He's very remorseful."

Police are investigating why the man did not see the woman, whose name was not released. Investigators had no reason to believe drugs, alcohol or cellphone use were associated with the impaired vision of the driver, according to the lieutenant.

He suggested that the sun could have been in the driver's eyes.
