SALT LAKE CITY — The fire at Antelope Island grew by more than 1,000 acres Sunday after raging for much of the day Saturday. It reached nearly 14,000 acres, stretching toward the historic Fielding Garr Ranch. Multiple out of state crews have been called in to help and fire crews were able to gain the upper hand on the fire.

The fire was 80 percent contained as of 9 p.m. Sunday, fire officials said.

"Currently, no structures are threatened and no injuries have been reported. Access to the island via the causeway remains open and the Visitor’s Center, Ladyfinger Point and Whiterock Bay beaches and campground are open," said Jason Curry, a state wildfire official.

Meanwhile, fire broke about 4 miles southwest of Scipio, with a lightning-caused blaze ravaging about 5,000 acres. Fire officials said the blaze burned through pinyon-juniper and oak brush and was 15 percent contained by Sunday at 9 p.m.

Agencies there were using air tankers, a helicopter and multiple ground crews to contain the very "active" lightning-caused blaze. Firefighters used fire retardant drops to keep the fire from burning into a powerline to the north.

Firefighters said they would try to limit fire growth on the western boundary of the fire overnight. The fire was burning in Ebbs and Wild Goose Canyons with smoke visible from Millard, Sevier and Sanpete counties.

Both the Pleasant View Pole Patch and Rocky Ridge fires were fully contained Sunday.

The Rocky Ridge fire started about 4:50 p.m. Friday in a field near 1100 West and 4300 North in Pleasant View. Twenty-five homes were evacuated. Two homes were damaged. Email: amyjoi@deseretnews.com Twitter: amyjoi16
