Holladay woman dies rock climbing in Maple Canyon

MAPLE CANYON, Sanpete County — A Holladay woman died Saturday after falling 60 feet while rock climbing in Maple Canyon, according to the Sanpete County Sheriff's office.

Melissa Raue, 62, was an experienced rock climber with more than 15 years of experience, officials said. She was climbing with her husband and a close friend around 1 p.m. when she fell. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical staff.

The cause of the fall remained under investigation. Sanpete County Search and Rescue assisted with the recovery effort.
