SALT LAKE CITY — Federal prosecutors now recommend convicted internet marketer Jeremy Johnson go to prison for up to 22 years.

A jury convicted Johnson and co-defendant Ryan Riddle on eight counts and six counts, respectively, of making false statements to a bank in connection to Johnson's online company, iWorks. Johnson was acquitted on 78 fraud charges and Riddle was acquitted on 56.

"Johnson is a career con man who cannot be deterred from engaging in whatever conduct he thinks is best for himself," prosecutors wrote in court papers filed Friday.

Prosecutors earlier said Johnson could spend up to 34 years behind bars but would recommend half that. They now argue he should serve 17 ½ to 22 years in prison. Prosecutors say Riddle should get to 10 to 12 ½ years in prison.

U.S. District Judge David Nuffer is scheduled to sentence the two men July 29.
