DURHAM, N.C. — Sweaty feet are a common problem, especially in the summer months. From kids to athletes, many people suffer from stinky shoes or socks.

Home remedies include applying a talcum powder or soaking your feet in saltwater or vinegar. A Utahn co-founded company, Carpe Lotion, launched a product specifically intended to treat the smell and make you forget about the foot soaks and powders.

Almost a year after releasing its hand lotion, Carpe Lotion has released a lotion focused on feet.

“We had people saying that I love using this on my hands, but I’ve mostly been using it on my feet,” said Kasper Kubica, co-founder of Carpe Lotion. “We took a step back and realized sweaty feet are a big thing. We’ve been focused on hands 'cause they’re kind of in your face, but we also have sweaty feet. There aren’t any common solutions for sweaty feet either.”

The foot lotion released earlier this month coincided with the new website release.

Kubica said how many times one has to apply the product and the results will vary by how much one sweats and skin chemistry.

“People put it on before a meeting or before a date and they have immediate results,” Kubica said. “You also have people with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) that use the product twice a day every day and see full results in four weeks.”

The lotion takes 10 minutes after being applied to become fully active.

Carpe Lotion is working on a couple more products they hope to release later this year. A stronger athletic formula is projected to come out in the next couple of months.

“For athletes, we want something that is really strong. It’s the same formula but a lot more aggressive,” Kubica said. “Our mission is to stop sweating in all the neglected areas: forehead, hands, feet, back, thighs. The body formula is more moisturizing.”

The company is striving for the body lotion to be out in time for Christmas.

A senior at Duke University, Kubica tries to manage his time between classes and his company the best he can.

“Thanks to the fact that there’s two of us (co-founder David Spratte) and we really support each other, it makes the whole thing a lot more manageable,” Kubica said. “I had to sit down and open up a calendar and budget out every single hour of my week. Hopefully, I can stick to that schedule and survive the fall. It’s going to be another tough year and I like that.”

Carpe Lotion can be purchased on the website, Amazon and all 125 Harris Teeter grocery stores on the East Coast.

“That’s our first major retail contract,” Kubica said. “We’re really making the push into retail. Maybe we’ll see it on the shelves in Utah soon enough.”

The success the company has received in its short history, at times, surprises Kubica.

“I know it’s a great product, but it’s almost unreal to be here,” Kubica said. “I’m happy to get all these emails, all these calls, and seeing all these reviews from people saying 'thank you for making this' and 'thank you for solving this problem that I’ve had for as long as I remember that has made my life miserable.' ”
