SALT LAKE CITY — When All-American Samantha Partyka announced her retirement from gymnastics three weeks ago, Utah gymnastics knew it had to fill a gap on the roster. On Wednesday, co-head coach Tom Farden announced the addition.
The Red Rocks added Maryland transfer Macey Roberts to their 2016-17 roster. The sophomore is eligible immediately, due to Maryland releasing her – a common theme when the two schools never compete against each other.
“It is very rare that we bring in a transfer gymnast, but Macey has the potential to make an immediate impact, so we are excited to have her join our team,” Farden said of Utah’s second-ever transfer gymnast.
Roberts started on vault and floor for the Terrapins as a freshman in 2016 and qualified for the NCAA Regionals as an individual competitor on floor. Her season bests included scores of 9.90 on floor and 9.825 on vault with nine scores of 9.80 or better on floor.
She’s scheduled to join the team in August when school begins.
