31-year-old man drowns at Blackridge Reservoir in Herriman

A 31-year-old Kearns man drowned Saturday afternoon at Blackridge Reservoir, police said.

The man was identified by police as Penoni Mounga, of Kearns.

Mounga, who was swimming with more than 30 family members at the reservoir, 15000 S. Ashland Ridge Drive, went underwater around 3:40 p.m., according to Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell.

'Warriors Over the Wasatch' on track to exceed 600,000 attendance

An estimated 300,000 Utahns from across the Wasatch Front packed parking lots blocks away and stood in massive lines to see Saturday's air show, one of Utah's largest events.

Boy dies, woman critically injured in Ogden fire

A 4-year-old boy is dead and his 28-year-old mother is in critical condition after a fire was accidentally started by the boy as he was playing with a butane torch at a home early Sunday morning, police and fire officials said.

Emergency crews from Ogden, South Ogden and Roy responded to a report of the fire at about 12:30 a.m. at 225 29th St., Ogden Police Lt. Nate Cline said.

Ogden Fire Marshal Kevin Brown said it appeared the boy was playing with a butane torch and accidentally ignited a mattress inside the basement of the home, causing the blaze.

1-year-old Riverton boy left in car for hours, expected to survive

A 1-year-old boy has been upgraded from critical condition and is expected to survive after police say he was left in a hot car for more than two hours Sunday.

Unified police reported that the boy was found in a car outside a home, 4916 W. Kessler Peak Drive, about 3 p.m. It was more than 150 degrees inside the car when the child was found still strapped in his car seat in the back of the vehicle, Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said.

The boy's mother had come home from church services because she was feeling sick and went into the house, Bell said. The woman's husband and their other children came home about 2 1Ž2 hours later and discovered the boy was still outside.

Battle continues against southern Utah Saddle Fire; Box Elder blaze under control

Crews in southern Utah continued efforts Sunday to defend the town of Pine Valley against the growing Saddle Fire, while full containment was reported at a smaller blaze in Box Elder County.
