PROVO — Shaquille Walker took All-American honors at the 800-meter track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon in June, posting a time of 1:45.17 to finish third in the finals.

And just like that, his career at BYU is over.

Walker signed an endorsement deal with shoe company Brooks, joining the Brooks Beasts track club in Seattle, the shoe company announced Friday. By doing so, the BYU school record holder in the 800-meter indoor and outdoor events will forego his senior season of college eligibility.

The 5-foot-10 returned missionary from Richmond Hill, Georgia will compete in next week’s U.S. Olympic trials in Oregon, with a spot on the U.S. 800-meter squad for the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro up for grabs.

Walker also helped the BYU 1,600-meter relay team to All-American honorable mention honors.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
