DALLAS — Kyle Collinsworth’s spot in the NBA isn’t guaranteed, like the players who were taken in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday night.

But the Dallas Mavericks are giving him a chance.

Collinsworth will report to the summer league with the Dallas Mavericks, as first reported by DallasBasketball.com.

The Mavericks are scheduled to play in both the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues. Dallas will open the 10-team Orlando league with two squads on July 2 against Oklahoma City, with the championship scheduled for July 8.

The Las Vegas Summer League tips off July 9 for the Mavs against Miami, followed by games July 11 vs. Toronto (and new draft pick Jakob Poeltl of Utah), July 12 vs. Boston and bracket-play and consolation games July 13-18 at UNLV.

The former Provo High star finished his BYU career as the program’s best all-time leader in rebounds, assists and second in steals. The NCAA’s all-time leader with 12 triple-doubles was an Associated Press All-American honorable mention as a senior when he helped the Cougars to a 26-11 record and a spot in the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament.

After earning all-West Coast Conference First-Team honors in back-to-back seasons upon returning from a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Russia.

Collinsworth was named the league's player of the year as a senior, when he helped the Cougars to a 13-5 record in WCC play.

The Deseret News Mr. Basketball and Utah Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior in high school, Collinsworth averaged 23.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 3.4 steals per game while helping Provo High to two Class 4A state titles, a runner-up finish and a berth into the semifinals.

By his senior year, he led BYU in scoring six times, in rebounding 15 times and in assists 32 times while averaging 15.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game.

While his All-American 800-meter runner wife Shea Martinez-Collinsworth prepared for the NCAA Track and Field Championships, Collinsworth prepared for the NBA Draft by working out with the L.A. Lakers, New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets.
