PASSAMAQUODDY — Earlier this year, Disney gave us our first teaser for its 2016 remake of “Pete’s Dragon.”

Like most teasers, the footage was strategically coy, shielding any clear shots of Elliot while editing Oakes Fegley’s performance down to only a few facial expressions. Still, it was enough to get fans interested. KSL.com commenter SounderFall541 noted:

“Whether you like Pete's Dragon or not, this is genuinely one of the best teaser trailers ever. Very well done.”

Well this week, Disney is adding to the well-received teaser by giving fans a better look at what August has in store. Wide shots, silhouettes and quick fades to black are now replaced with our first look at the film’s villain (Karl Urban) and an actual idea of the overall story.

Fans of the original 1977 film might notice this latest trailer’s total lack of singing about Passamaquoddy or candles on the water. However, the simple story about a boy and his dragon remains, giving fans hope this remake will capture some of the magic from the original.

On a personal note, I’m happy to admit the trailer did make me smile. As long as Elliot maintains his childlike, happy disposition and Pete’s love for Elliot grounds this obviously incredible story, I’ll keep my hopes high for this project. Sure, I’ll miss some of the vaudevillian moments from the original, but with such a solid cast in place and the promising footage Disney continues to reveal, I’m predicting another big win for the mouse house in 2016.
