SALT LAKE CITY — After leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints formally encouraged LDS women to help refugees, LDS Charities began publishing videos “that show how some members are already reaching out to refugees,” according to the LDS Church.
In one of the videos, a woman named Michelle and her family invite a woman named Milan and her daughters to make dinner with them and learn about each other’s culture.
Michelle volunteers at a school close to her home where many refugee students attend.
“Being able to volunteer made us think about other ways that maybe we could reach out to the families, and we thought it would be a great idea to have one of those families over for dinner and let our children play and get to know each other,” Michelle said in the video.
Milan was very nervous to go over for dinner, and Michelle was worried they wouldn’t like the food that she would make, they said in the video.
