WEST POINT — A Davis School District principal has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested Friday in connection with a reported domestic assault at his home.

A probable cause statement from the Davis County Sheriff's Office said Donald Heywood Beatty, 53, told authorities he pushed his wife to the ground in an attempt to keep her from using her cell phone to call for help.

Then, according to the statement, Beatty said "it didn't matter as she made the call anyway, and that he did state that he was going to kill the son if he arrived."

The statement said Beatty told authorities that his wife had tried to leave the room before concluding a conversation so he "closed the door and would not let her leave," and that "the rest is kinda fuzzy."

His wife told authorities he pushed her to the ground and straddled her to prevent her from phoning for help, but she was then able to leave the room and make the call.

Beatty was booked on investigation of assault, unlawful detention, making a terroristic threat and interruption of a communications device and has been released on bail, according to booking information from the sheriff's office.

Beatty, listed as the principal for Antelope Elementary School in Clearfield on the school's website, told authorities his occupation was principal and his employer was the Davis School District, the booking information showed.

He has been placed on administrative leave, according to a recorded message on the cell phone of Chris Williams, community relations director for the Davis School District.

Williams said in the message left for reporters calling about Beatty that he was unable to say more but the district would be looking into the matter.
