PARK CITY — A man caused a brief scare Friday when he attempted to pull from his waistband what turned out to be a fake gun at Park City Medical Center, hospital officials said.
The man, a patient at the hospital, "told one of our nurses he had a gun" before attempting to pull out the fake weapon, said Intermountain Healthcare spokeswoman Amy Roberts.
"Our security team immediately wrestled the patient to the ground. … The Park City Police Department, Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Utah Highway Patrol responded within minutes to assist," Roberts said in a statement. "All patients and employees are safe and no one was hurt."
The ordeal occurred around 4 p.m.
"Though the incident is unfortunate and frightening, Park City Medical Center was prepared, largely due to the training our staff undergoes for a situation like this," Roberts said.
She declined to release the man's name or say whether he was arrested. Park City police initially referred all questions to Roberts and didn't immediately respond to a request Friday night for more information.
