HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — Arrangements were made Friday to release a man from the Weber County Jail, five days after police arrested him for investigation of aggravated murder in the death of his wife.

Michael Biccum, 60, remained in the jail Friday evening, but arrangements were being made for his release, Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay confirmed.

Police believe Biccum killed Deborah Biccum, 60, on Sunday at the couples' condominium, 6486 E. state Route 39 near Pineview Reservoir. However, no formal charges have been filed against Biccum as of Friday.

Findlay said he wasn't privy to information about why Biccum was being released, other than it was a court order. He referred further questions to Weber County Attorney Chris Allred, who didn't respond to multiple requests for comment Friday.

Allred told the Standard Examiner, however, that he was waiting for the results of toxicology tests that could take several weeks to complete. Through an arrangement with his attorney, Biccum will wear an electronic ankle monitor.

Prosecutors generally have 72 hours after a defendant is jailed to file criminal charges against them or the defendant can be released. Prosecutors can ask a judge to grant extensions, but usually not for weeks.

Deputies responded to the Biccum's condominium after receiving reports that a man had attacked his wife. After no contact could be made with anyone inside, a SWAT team entered to find Deborah Biccum dead, according to the lieutenant.

The woman was found with "signs of trauma," but a preliminary autopsy was "inconclusive," Findlay said Monday.

Police said they found Michael Biccum later Sunday hiding in a bathroom in a nearby condominium that he had access to. Deputies arrested Biccum and booked him into the Weber County Jail for investigation of aggravated murder.

Investigators believe there was a history of domestic violence between the couple but that it had never been reported to police.
