WEST VALLEY CITY — Police arrested a wanted fugitive Thursday who allegedly assaulted two officers.

Two detectives stopped a pair of men riding bicycles near 3100 South and 2900 West. One of the men, wanted on a felony warrant, attacked them, according to Lt. Julie Jorgensen of the West Valley City Police Department. The man was identified as Brent Stephenson, 43.

"He punched one of the officers and basically he used his bike to knock down one of the other officers (then) took off running," Jorgensen said.

She said the officers were not seriously injured.

Police set up a containment area and brought in K-9s to search for the fugitive but did not find him Wednesday night. Police were able to take Stephenson into custody without incident Thursday afternoon.

The man who was with the fugitive did not flee and was not arrested.

"He just sat down right where they were at and was completely cooperative," Jorgensen said.
