SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City-County Building will undergo repairs and seismic upgrades over the next two-plus years, city officials announced Wednesday.

The project will restore the stone facade of the building and also include some window repairs, city spokesman Matthew Rojas said in a statement. The project is set to begin June 6 and finish in the fall of 2018.

In all, the project will cost about $10 million, according to information posted on the city's website.

The building will remain operational throughout the project. Rojas said the project will be the most significant of its kind performed on the structure since the late 1980s. The Salt Lake City-County Building was built in 1894.

Scaffolding will be in place throughout the summer and fall, Rojas said. Salt Lake City officials and Big-D construction, which is heading the project, will conduct an informational open house 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, in Room 315 at the Salt Lake City-County Building.

“This is one of the most iconic buildings in Salt Lake City and holds a special place in the history of the state of Utah and the Capital city,” Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski said in a statement. “These key projects are essential to maintaining the building to a level that is consistent with its historic significance and to allow for continued use as Salt Lake’s City center of government well into the future.”

    • Jan-Dec 2016 Seismic Upgrades
