PORTAGE, Box Elder County — A South Jordan man died Wednesday after he was hit by a car on the freeway, officials said.

Allen W. Devaul, 50, and his family were driving southbound on I-15 near the Portage turnoff when the heavy rain caused him to lose control of his car and hit a median, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce.

He got out of the car to look at the damage and take pictures when another car lost control and hit him, Royce said.

Devaul’s wife and her sister were in the car at the time of the accident. Police currently do not know of any other injuries, according to Royce.

Editor's Note: The Utah Highway Patrol initially reported the wife's sister as the couple's child but later updated the relationship.
