Police suspect arson in house fire that killed S.L. restaurateur

The 72-year-old co-owner of Gastronomy Inc. died and estranged husband is in jail Sunday after a Capitol Hill area house fire that police are calling suspicious.

Firefighters were called to a home at 574 N. East Capitol St., at 1:18 a.m., said Salt Lake police detective Cody Lougy. Once they put the fire out about 45 minutes later, they found John W. Williams' body on the upper level of the house, he said.

Police booked Craig A. Crawford, 47, into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of aggravated murder and aggravated arson, according to jail records.

Teen in critical condition after friend stabbed him with sword, police say

A 17-year-old is in critical condition after police say his friend stabbed him with a sword during a sleepover early Saturday morning.

"It was a tragic, very uncommon and strange event," Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said, but he added that it could have had a deadly ending if it weren't for the aid of several firefighters who helped an officer subdue a violent suspect.

4 injured, more displaced after large fire at SLC apartment complex ===================================================================

Four people, including one firefighter, received minor injuries after a fire ripped through an apartment complex early Saturday morning.

Crews received a report of a fire at the Westcliff Apartments at 419 E. 200 South at about 1:46 a.m., officials at the Salt Lake Fire Department said. According to officials, firefighters on scene had to make two rescues from inside the building and two more from a fire escape while fighting the blaze.

Weber County deputies investigating possible homicide near Huntsville

A woman died and Weber County sheriff's deputies detained her husband Sunday after being called to condominium on the shores of Pineview Reservoir.
