SALT LAKE CITY — KSL.com regularly updates its readers on the latest news happening in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. See the following information for an update.

Missionary attire

Missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can now wear sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats, according to LDS.org.

“You may wear simple and conservative sunglasses to provide protection from the sun,” according to LDS.org. “However, unless your sunglasses serve a medical purpose, you should not wear them when speaking with others or while indoors. Do not wear sunglasses with bright-colored rims or mirrored lenses.”

Visit this website to view types of sunglasses missionaries are able to wear.

When it is sunny, missionaries can wear wide-brimmed hats when they are proselyting. They should wear sunscreen, and when they have to, they are required to select wide-brimmed hats that have at least a three-inch brim around them, so they can help protect them from the sun, according to LDS.org.

“Avoid bright-colored hats or hats that are too casual or that may distract from your message. Baseball, cowboy, bucket, newsboy and fedora hats are not acceptable,” the website says. “Do not wear hats or gloves indoors.”

Refugee video

LDS Charities has been releasing videos demonstrating how some Latter-day Saints are reaching out to refugees for its “Give Back” series, according to the LDS Church.

“The video below describes how Fatou, a refugee from the Ivory Coast, and Toni share a love for cross-country running and develop a friendship far beyond the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Utah where they first met,” the LDS Church reported.

In the video, Fatou describes life as a refugee and tells how she came to live in the United States.

“For me, I actually didn’t like it,” she said. At that point, she only cared about the fact that she was being taken away from her friends and where she felt comfortable, she said.

The video powerfully shows how strong the women’s friendship is.

“You don’t know, but you have made a very, very big impact in my life,” Fatou tells Toni in the video.

Czech Republic stake

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of the LDS Church, recently created the Czech Republic’s first stake, according to the LDS Church.

There were hundreds of church members at a special worship service at the Žofin Palace in Prague, and they sustained Martin Pilka as the president of the Prague Stake, the LDS Church reported.

There are more than 2,500 Latter-day Saints in the European country, and a lot of them are returned or current missionaries.

To hear President Uchtdorf’s comments, watch the video.
