PROVO — Back in February, the BYU softball team lost to then-No. 12 Missouri, 16-6, in Palm Springs, California.

This time, the Cougars are hoping for a different outcome.

The West Coast Conference champion Cougars open their 12th-straight NCAA Regional appearance Thursday at No. 15 Missouri. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT on ESPN2.

BYU wasn't without offense in the first game against the Tigers (39-14). Cougar slugger Libby Sugg hit a two-run homer, and Gordy Bravo and Lauren Bell each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

But the mental game wasn't ideal at the time, WCC player of the year Ashley Thompson admitted this week.

"It was our very last game, it was late at night and everyone was tired," Thompson told BYUtv's "Sports Nation." "It was a completely different environment last time.

"We've just got to string some hits together. But we'll be good to go."

The Tigers host the double-elimination regional, which also includes Nebraska and Louisville in the early game. First pitch for the Huskers and Cardinals is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. MT on ESPN2.
