OGDEN — Krystin Kubo’s home run in the bottom of the sixth inning helped the Weber State softball team to a 4-2 win Saturday over Idaho State in the finals of the Big Sky tournament in Ogden.

Sara Hingsberger and Mackenzie Corate opened the scoring for the Wildcats in the fourth inning with a pair of RBIs. Big Sky Player of the Year Aubrey Whitmer drove in the go-ahead run at 3-2 in the fifth, and Kubo’s solo shot clinched the win over the Bengals.

Whitmer, who was also named Big Sky tournament MVP, finished 2 for 3 with her RBI, and Kirtlyn Bohling earned the win in the circle with three strikeouts, a walk and six hits allowed.

Idaho State defeated Sacramento State 7-4 in the loser’s bracket final earlier Saturday.

With the win, the Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
