GREEN BAY, Wisc. — Former Utah State linebacker Kyler Fackrell signed a rookie contract with the Green Bay Packers, Packers general manager Ted Thompson announced Thursday.
Fackrell became the second Aggie linebacker to sign his contract following the 2016 NFL Draft, joining former teammate Nick Vigil and the Cincinatti Bengals on Tuesday. Former Southern Utah defensive standouts Miles Killebrew (Lions) and LeShaun Sims (Titans) have also signed rookie contracts.
Terms of Fackrell's deal were not immediately disclosed.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound native of Mesa, Arizona, was an all-Mountain West first-team selection as as senior in 2015, when he was named a semifinalist for the Dick Butkus Award given annually to the nation's top linebacker. The Packers drafted him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft in April.
"He’s kind of an all-around guy,” Thompson told packers.com of Fackrell. “He has the ability to rush the passer, but he’s got good ability in space; good athlete. We liked how he plays the ball.”
Vigil signed his rookie contract Tuesday, becoming the first official signing from Utah State in 2016 after he and Fackrell were drafted with back-to-back selections in the draft. The third-round pick's deal is reportedly worth just over $3 million over four seasons with a signing bonus of about $700,000, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
