SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of arranging to meet with a 13-year-old boy, who turned out to be an undercover officer, was charged Wednesday.

The incident is one of two recent cases being investigated by the Utah Attorney General Office's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of adult men allegedly looking for young children on the internet and trying to meet with them for the purpose of having sex.

Ryan Glenn Hull, 41, of West Valley City, was charged in 3rd District Court with enticing a minor using the internet, a second-degree felony, and dealing in harmful materials to a minor, a third-degree felony.

In April, an undercover task force agent posing as a 13-year-old boy responded to a graphic ad placed by Hull on Craigslist, according to charging documents.

From April 12-27, Hull exchanged approximately 20 emails and more than 300 text messages with the undercover agent. "Hull made his intentions for the 13-year-old child known through several text messages," the investigator wrote in charging documents.

On April 25, Hull sent a nude picture of himself to the agent posing as the teen boy, charges state.

On April 27, Hull arranged to meet the boy in an area near 8600 South and 1800 East. He was met by task force agents who arrested him.

"When asked if Hull had ever done this before, he said about 10 years ago he brushed up against other young boys around 13 years old while in a swimming pool, which aroused him. He was asked to leave, so he went outside of the pool area and took photographs of the children for arousal purposes," charges state.

Hull also told officers that two days before being arrested, he was "in line to purchase movie tickets in the Salt Lake Valley and he brushed up against some boys who were about 13 years old," according to charging documents. "Hull also said he was worried about his desires becoming stronger and acting out on them, which was why he wanted help."

In a separate case, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force agents arrested Ira Ronald Edwards, 35, of Nephi, who traveled to Murray with the alleged purpose of meeting with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl, according to a search warrant affidavit unsealed in 3rd District Court on Wednesday. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on April 14 for investigation of enticing a minor.

"Though Edwards minimized his activities to agents, Edwards admitted that he would have engaged in sexual activity with (her) had (she) been willing (and existed)," investigators wrote in their warrant.

He was charged April 15 with enticing a minor using the internet, a class A misdemeanor. Edwards was also charged in April in another case with theft and theft by deception. In that case, he is accused of stealing jewelry from a pawn shop where he worked and selling it to other pawn shops, according to charging documents.
