SALT LAKE CITY — The Roundhouse restaurant at Solitude Mountain Resort went up in flames Friday afternoon, causing problems for firefighters who had at first had no water access at the building, fire authorities said.

Firefighters made access to the restaurant by snowmobile but initially had no way to get water there, according to Unified Fire Authority spokesman David Ulibarri.

The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. "just up the hill" from the main entrance of the resort, according to Ulibarri. Firefighters eventually got water from an external pipe connected to the building's culinary line, he said.

Because no fire hoses were being used, progress on the blaze was slow, Ulibarri said.

About 15 firefighters doused the fire by 7:40 p.m. The Roundhouse wasn't considered a total loss, but the exact amount of damage done was still being assessed Friday night, Ulibarri said.

Nobody was inside the restaurant Friday evening, and no other buildings were threatened, the spokesman said. He said the cause of the fire was unknown Friday night, but that it wasn't believed to be suspicious.

Firefighters planned to resume their investigation Saturday morning.

Solitude Resort said in a statement posted Friday to Instagram that the Roundhouse, which offers "Himalayan and Wasatch-inspired comfort food," is in a 60-year-old building located between the Eagle Express and Moonbeam chairlifts. It is closed for the resort's winter season, which is still ongoing, according to the statement.

At this time we are sad to announce that the Roundhouse at Solitude Mountain Resort is on fire. The fire was reported at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016. The United Fire Authority is currently on scene and working to contain the fire to its current location as well as keep personnel at the resort safe. The structure is fully engulfed and unfortunately we have no choice but to let it burn. There have been no reports of injuries and we do not anticipate any as the building was closed for the season. The Roundhouse has been standing for over 60 years between the Moonbeam and Eagle Express chairlifts and was most recently a mid-mountain dining facility that served Himalayan and Wasatch-inspired comfort food to skiers and snowboarders. We are currently working with the United Fire Authority investigator to determine what caused the fire. As more information becomes available we will share it with the public.
