OREM — A man allegedly responsible for the theft of two pricey guitars this week from different stores was arrested Thursday and the instruments were recovered, police said.

The case began Tuesday when a man ran out of Murphy's Guitars in Bountiful with a $1,300 guitar, according to Bountiful police.

On Wednesday, Best in Music in Orem reported that a man had stolen an expensive, limited edition John Lennon guita that afternoon. That guitar is worth about $10,000, said Bountiful Police Lt. Dave Edwards.

A tip made by a third music store about the alleged thief's license plate number helped police track down Justin Charles Buchanan, 34, in Salt Lake City on Thursday afternoon, Edwards said.

Buchanan was arrested in the parking lot of a Lowe's, 1335 S. 300 West. Police also recovered both guitars there, Edwards said.

Buchanan, of Meridian, Idaho, was allegedly also in the possession of another person's credit card. He was booked into the Davis County Jail around 4:30 p.m. for investigation of felony theft.

Edwards said he was grateful the case was resolved quickly and resulted in the guitars being found.

“It’s always fun to be able to return stolen property to a business," the lieutenant said.
