SALT LAKE CITY — Utah is known for its great outdoors and some of its mountain biking trails are now featured in a cellphone game created by Red Bull Media House.

The game, “Bike Unchained,” was released in October 2015, but a new updated version released Thursday features nine new trails from the Red Bull Rampage course in Virgin, Washington County.

“The premium free-to-play mobile game for iOS and Android lets players virtually ride the world’s best trails and with its new update, users will now be able to take on mountain biking's premiere free-ride contest Red Bull Rampage,” according to a Red Bull Media House news release. “The newly added terrain is demanding and packed with cliff-drops and huge canyon gaps just like its real-life version in Virgin.”

The 10th annual Red Bull Rampage was held in Virgin in October, and while competing in the real event is invite-only, the Bike Unchained game gives players the opportunity to race virtually. Users can compete as their favorite cyclists with two new players featured in the update: Jill Kintner, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and triple world champion on MTB 4-Cross and Canadian Darren Berrecloth who took third place at the 2015 Red Bull Rampage in Utah.

“Bike Unchained brings amazing real-world bike locations to player’s smartphones, as they become their favorite bike athletes,” the news release said. “The goal in Bike Unchained is to shred Team Praedor from their mission to ruin the world’s most beautiful biking trails, while winning in-game gear from real-life MTB brands such as Specialized. Realistic bike trails that combine enduro, downhill and slopestyle mountain biking provide players with an authentic riding experience in three fun and challenging play modes.”
