LEHI — A Lehi thoroughfare known to neighbors as a magnet for accidents is the topic of concern again after a car slammed into a Brad Bennett’s fence Thursday.

Bennett’s home is near a curve along 3200 North in Lehi. He said drivers often speed in the 25 mph zone, and Thursday was no exception.

“I just heard a big crash. I didn't know what it was," Bennett said. "When I came out to look, there was a red Saab sitting in the fence."

Lehi police said the driver was speeding around the turn and lost control. The driver was not hurt, but Bennett said his children were playing near that fence minutes before the crash.

“That's been a fear that I've had, is somebody coming around the corner too fast,” the homeowner said.

Bennett and his neighbors have taken pictures of seven major incidents in the last six years. Police say none of them would have happened if drivers followed the rules.

“If people would slow down and follow traffic regulations, then I think that a lot of accidents would be avoided,” said Lehi Police Sgt. Chris Hadlock.

Even though 3200 North is a major thoroughfare, Hadlock said it's not an area of concern for the city.

“To be honest, I don't find vehicles speeding to the point that I stop them. I think that the curve here behind us kind of exaggerates the speed issue,” he said.

But Bennett disagrees and hopes this latest crash will push city officials to make safety improvements.

"I mean, that's the biggest thing that I'm after, is we get some changes here that actually slows this down,” he said.
