SPRINGVILLE — Police are looking for a 19-year-old man who they say intentionally hit and injured two police officers with a car Saturday morning.
Corbin Chandler Decker, 19, has been named as a person of interest in the encounter, which left one officer hospitalized with serious injuries and another with a broken nose and facial lacerations, police said.
Springville Police Lt. David Caron said Decker is believed to be the driver.
About 8:50 a.m., police were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of a residence at 860 E. Hillcrest. Officer Warren Foster approached the car on foot and asked the two men inside to put their hands up because they were "fidgeting around," according to a news release from Springville police.
Instead, the men drove toward the officer and struck him, police said.
The car then accelerated out of the driveway, hitting officer Kyle Curtis and launching him several feet, according to Caron.
Around 9:15 a.m., a resident in a nearby home reported that a man had entered the home's basement. The man ran from the house and was captured by a Utah County sheriff's deputy, police said.
Foster identified Christopher Damron, 20, as the passenger in the suspicious vehicle, and Damron was arrested.
The car was found in a nearby driveway, abandoned with the engine still running, authorities said. It was stolen earlier in the week, police said.
Foster sustained minor injuries, including a sprained ankle and a sore wrist, but he returned to work to finish his shift. Meanwhile, Curtis suffered a broken nose and several facial lacerations after being hit by the car. He was released from the hospital later Saturday.
Decker was still on the loose Saturday evening, according to police. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Springville Police Department at 801-489-9421.
