SALT LAKE CITY — If you’re looking to go green to stay lean this year, we’ve picked out a few power picks that are loaded with nutrients to help you on your journey for better health.

First on the chopping block: Avocados. This rather unique fruit provides a healthy dose of fat-melting mono-unsaturated fatty acids as well as 20 different vitamins and minerals including vitamin E, fiber and folic acid. Did you know avocados contain more potassium than a banana? Potassium is an important mineral that helps support healthy blood pressure levels.

Next on the list: green peppers. They’re low in calories and packed with vitamin C, which helps with iron absorption. Green peppers are known to be a powerful fat releaser and also helps lower "bad cholesterol" while playing a protective role in certain types of cancers.

This go green list wouldn't be complete if we didn't mention the powerful super food: kale. This member of the cabbage family is loaded with powerful antioxidants, fiber, vitamin C, calcium, iron and lutein.

Last but not least: cabbage. This veggie is filled with fiber, vitamin C, foliate and manganese. Cabbage will leave you feeling fuller. It’s great for mental function, concentration and helps detoxify the body.

Incorporate these simple greens into your diet and you’ll reap the many health benefits that follow. Make one simple, healthy change after another and your body will slowly evolve into a fat busting machine.
