Between the red rock deserts and majestic mountains, Utah scenery usually gets all the glory when it comes to filming movies. However, just like Leo finally winning that Oscar, we think the time has come to highlight all the real estate that plays a strong supporting role in some of the most iconic films in history.

Here’s a list of classic Utah apartments that made it onto the big screen.

1- Fletch

This 1985 movie starring Chevy Chase as a reporter on the run famously featured lots of jokes about Utah, but it also spotlighted several iconic Utah locations. Although Fletch headed to Provo (Utah, not Spain) in the movie, most of the Utah scenes were actually filmed in Ogden.

If you drove down 24th Street years ago, you might have recognized the Mountain View Hotel where he stayed. However, it has since closed and was turned into Mountain View Apartments.

2 - Dumb and Dumber

It’s hard to walk by the Smith Apartments in downtown Salt Lake City without fondly remembering a time when Harry and Lloyd from 1994’s Dumb and Dumber lived there. In the movie, these apartments were used for exterior shots (the inside scenes were filmed in a studio), but they’re still recognizable to passerby.

If you want to check out these apartments (or even live there yourself) you can find them on 228 S. 300 East in SLC.

3 - 127 Hours

Although the apartment is only featured for a few minutes at the beginning (as Aron Ralston is heading out the door on his way to an ill-fated hike), the interior scenes for 127 Hours were filmed at Pauline apartments in Salt Lake City. There are no shots of the apartment exterior in the movie, so the only way you’ll recognize this famous spot is if you know someone or rent there yourself and can get a glimpse of the inside.

4 - Sandlot

Okay, it’s not technically an apartment, but we couldn't leave out Smalls’ classic house from The Sandlot. Located on the east side of Salt Lake City at Bryan Ave. and 2000 East, this is the neighborhood where Smalls and Benny hung out when they weren’t busy on the baseball field.

Heads up if you decide to see it for yourself: When this house was sold in 2009 it still had the original 1960s green shag carpet and pink exterior, but it has since been remodeled and looks slightly different.
