LEHI — The world according to Matthew, is a place to explore, to grow and to discover. This 9-year-old is wise beyond his years.

"I like learning about history, so I can make sure I don't do it again," he said.

He has a thirst for knowledge.

"It can just get everything else off my mind, but the book," he said.

He enjoys getting lost in a world outside his own; however, when you're navigating the real world alone, it can be scary.

"I'm in foster care right now," he explained.

The fourth-grader has lived in foster care so long even he's starting to lose track of time.

"Man, that's a difficult one," he said. "I think for like four years now."

He admits foster care isn't the kind of adventure he planned on for his life.

"It's fine," he said. "I mean, I wish I was in a different home, but right here will do for now."

What he's not fine with is the way he feels when other kids ask him about his living situation.

"(I feel) embarrassed," he said.

He looks forward to never having to answer those tough question again.

"I wouldn't have to worry about all that anymore," he said.

For now he's waiting and hoping his new world is just around the corner.

"I just want to go to a permanent family," he said.
