ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — One of the people charged in connection with the armed occupation of an Oregon wildlife refuge has appeared in a Utah court.
The Spectrum of St. George reports that 36-year-old Blaine Cooper, of Humboldt, Arizona, said very little while in federal court Friday on one count of conspiring to impede federal officers.
Cooper, accompanied by a defense attorney, acknowledged that he is the suspect named by federal authorities.
He is reserving any challenges for when he is transferred to Oregon.
Cooper was among nine people from six states who FBI agents arrested Thursday after negotiating their surrender.
An Oregon grand jury had indicted them a day earlier.
Armed protesters angry about federal land-use policy seized the southeastern Oregon property on Jan. 2.
