Editor's note: The Mountain West Conference released a video Thursday afternoon explaining the refs' decision to say that Webb III's possession did last longer than 0.8 seconds. The video can be viewed below. SALT LAKE CITY — Their profession in one of the most hated, but refs continue to show up to work and brush off the hate from fans all around the world. Rarely is there any praise for a referee, simply because it's their responsibility to point out the problems.

While most agree the job is extremely difficult and includes varying degrees of difficulty watching real-time action, video replay has changed the game and has given refs and opportunity to correct the judgement calls made in real time.

Wednesday night, Colorado State and Boise State were tied 84-84 with 0.8 seconds left in the game. Boise State's Anthony Drmic inbounded the ball to James Webb III, who quickly fired off an off-balanced 3-pointer at the buzzer. The shot went in and appeared as though the Broncos had won the game.

Enter the refs.

The officials, Tom O'Neill, Verne Harris and Dave Hall, went to the monitor to review the play and determined the shot came off Webb III's hand after the clock expired even though the clock still had 0.4 seconds left with the ball in the air. The refs claimed the clock wasn't started on time and that their use of a stopwatch showed it took 1.4 seconds to get the ball off.

You be the judge:

The game ended up being settled in double overtime where the Rams won 97-93. The Rams thank the refs for the win.

The Mountain West Conference released a video Tuesday afternoon to show how the refs came to the determination that Webb III had the ball in his hands when the time should have expired.

Peyton Manning with egg on his face
