RIVERDALE — A Riverdale man who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend remained free Tuesday as police continued collecting evidence in the case.

Riverdale police said they received a 911 call just before 11 p.m. Sunday from Scott Sandlin, 41, reporting that he had shot his girlfriend, Jenna Manuel, 30, who was armed with a knife, in self-defense.

Manuel's 8-year-old daughter was in the home, 4400 Parker Drive, when the shooting occurred, but police have declined to say whether she witnessed the incident.

Police remained tight-lipped about their investigation Tuesday, refusing to say anything more than what was in their prepared statement. Police have not said how many shots were fired, only stating that Manuel died from "gunshot wounds."

A candlelight vigil for Manuel was planned for Tuesday night in Roy at Sandridge Park.

Riverdale Police Lt. Casey Warren said Manuel had been out with friends watching the Super Bowl and there was a domestic dispute after she got home. He said it was the first time Riverdale police had been called to any domestic violence-related call at that residence for Manuel and Sandlin.

"At this point in the investigation no criminal charges have been filed. No further details will be released until the investigation is completed," Riverdale police said in a statement.

Police have not said whether a knife was recovered, what the couple may have been arguing about, or if alcohol may have been a factor.

Manuel worked in the restaurant industry, according to friends. The marquee of the Rock Bottom Lounge and Grill in Ogden posted on its marquee: "In loving memory of our beautiful Jenna."

On the website of Ogden's Funk 'n Dive Bar, a message was posted: "Everyone at Funk 'n Dive is heartbroken and devastated by loss of this beautiful amazing light. Jenna truly lit up the room every time she walked in, every time she smiled, and every time she laughed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, friends, family, and of course her beloved Alana. We love you deeply, and you are truly missed."

Friends left messages on Facebook Tuesday in remembrance, one person stating, "I can't believe that this has happened to you. It's hard to breathe. You were such a great person and your million dollar smile and kindness will not be forgotten. Rest in peace."

"My heart is heavy. Sending love, strength and blessings to all and may our beautiful cousin rest in peace," wrote another.

"(Jenna) was such a beautiful person and soul! I have had the pleasure of knowing my gorgeous friend for over half my life," another Facebook post states. "She was an amazing momma and loved her daughter more then anything! May Jenna rest in peace and fly high above us, watching over us in our darkest hours and continue to be able to watch her baby girl grow into a beautiful young lady just like she was."

A GoFundMe page was established to help with funeral expenses and to support Manuel's daughter.
