SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified a man who barricaded himself inside a motor home on I-215 West on Saturday.

Police identified that man as Demetrius Greene, 40, and said he was a "transient." The mysterious incident has left police with several unanswered questions.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt Jalaine Hawkes said the incident started when an RV broke down while driving southbound on I-215 on Saturday and the owner called a towing company for help.

A tow truck driver and assistant arrived and were met by two other men, according to Hawkes. But she said they soon began to feel "a little bit weird" about the situation.

One of the towing company employees told police he saw three women in the RV.

He had "a very quick glance, but his impression was that the young females were scared," Hawkes said.

The tow truck driver and assistant left the scene and decided to call police, according to Hawkes.

She said that in between the time the towing company employees left and the troopers arrived, everybody had left the scene except for one male.

When troopers arrived at the RV, Greene brandished a knife and refused to come out of the motor home, according to Hawkes.

She said Greene later left the RV voluntarily and was booked at Salt Lake County on suspicion of driving without a license and having a weapon despite being a restricted person.

Hawkes said that police also found drug paraphernalia in the RV.

"At this point the investigation's still ongoing," Hawkes said.

She said investigators are trying to find the women who were allegedly in the RV by talking to witnesses, contacting cab companies and looking at video footage from surrounding businesses.

The witness was not able to guess the age of the women he saw, Hawkes said.

However, the owner of the motor home did eventually get in touch with the towing company to pay them, according to Hawkes. She said police have a phone number for him but are still trying to locate him.

The RV wasn't registered, according to Hawkes.
