SANDY — Police believe they have arrested the so-called "Bucket List Bandit" who is responsible for at least five bank and hotel robberies.

Scot B. Wilcox, 54, was arrested Thursday at his home in Sandy after several people recognized him from media reports and notified investigators, said Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell.

The man suspected in the robberies was growing more aggressive during each incident, the first of which occurred around Nov. 4 at a Hampton Inn in Sandy, Bell said. He handed a note to the clerk initially in a string of robberies in southeast Salt Lake County, but later would say he had a gun with him or pound the counter, according to Bell.

Earlier this week, police introduced several surveillance photos of the robber to the media and asked the public for help identifying him. Police nicknamed the graying man the "Bucket List Bandit" because of his age.

Officers connected the man to a robbery at Staybridge Suites in Midvale, a Wells Fargo inside a Fresh Market grocery store in Murray, a U.S. Bank inside a Smith's in Sandy and an America First Credit Union inside a Harmon's in Draper, all since November.

Bell said Thursday that Wilcox may be responsible for other robberies dating back "two or three months."

Officers from Unified, Sandy, Draper and Murray police, along with agents from the FBI were present at Wilcox's arrest.

"All are vested in this case," Bell said.

Wilcox was arrested without incident and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of robbery and aggravated robbery, the lieutenant said.

Anyone with additional information about Wilcox's case can call Unified police at 801-743-7000.
