CEDAR CITY — The driver of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma died Friday after losing control of his vehicle and sliding off the freeway, officials said.

The driver was traveling north on I-15 about 6 miles out of Cedar City when the accident occurred. A snowstorm caused the road to become slick and black ice to form, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver slid onto the right shoulder of the road and the truck began to slide sideways before rolling about two times and landing on its top.

The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the car was transported via ambulance to Valley View Medical Center in stable condition.

The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of the family.

More details will be posted as they become available.
