NORFOLK, Virginia — A young Virginia boy got an unexpected lift to school by the two men who stole his family's car while he was sitting in the back seat, police said.
Police in Norfolk said the 8-year-old's mother left her son in the car with the keys in the ignition Monday morning while she ran into the post office where she worked. That's when two men jumped into the car and took off, but not before asking the boy where he'd like to be dropped off, WVEC News reports.
The boy gave them the name of his elementary school, where they let him out unharmed, police said.
Meanwhile, the boy's mother returned to the parking lot to find both her car and her son had vanished.
Police found the car abandoned about three miles from the school, but the alleged carjackers were nowhere to be found.
