OGDEN – The Weber State men's basketball team started off its 2015-16 campaign Saturday night with an 83-57 exhibition victory over Southern Virginia.

Weber State had the game in hand from the tip-off by quickly jumping out to a 12-2 lead, and the Wildcats never looked back.

Senior forward Joel Bolomboy played in midseason form, scoring 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Southern Virginia is a very small team, and Bolomboy and forward Kyndahl Hill took full advantage of the height difference to overpower the smaller defenders in the post.

Hill finished the game with 15 points, going 6-of-7 from the floor and scoring almost all of his points in the paint. Hill also collected nine rebounds and went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Weber State was moving the ball very well, passing it crisply and quickly, and finished the game with 13 assists.

The bench provided a huge contribution, outscoring the Southern Virginia bench 36-14. Almost every player who took the floor for Weber State scored.

"You have got to get the uniforms on and you have got to get out in front of some people," Weber State head coach Randy Rahe said. "I thought we played a little nervous, and I didn't think we played as fast as I wanted, but overall it was good to get out there and play."

Weber is now looking ahead to its official season opener when it hosts in-state rival Utah State Friday. Utah State has won the previous three meetings against the Wildcats.

According to sophomore guard Ryan Richardson, who went 2-of-4 from 3 in the game, the team is looking forward to proving itself against the Aggies.

"Our defensive intensity really has to pick up for that team," said Richardson. "They are going to come at us hard. They look at us as kind of a little-sister school so we have got to come with a lot of intensity."

Rahe also spoke about the challenges that Utah State will present.

"It is probably one of the best teams they have had in the last four to five years with all of the returning players," said Rahe. "In-state rivals are fun games. We love playing them. We expect a knockdown, drag out, highly intense game."
