WEST HAVEN — The driver of a semi truck got a major surprise Sunday morning when he realized the owl he struck overnight had survived and had been stuck in the grill of the vehicle overnight.
According to the Weber County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the trucker, who was not identified, recalled hitting the bird while driving on his I-15 route sometime Saturday night, but never realized it had become lodged on the front of the vehicle. It was only when the man stopped for breakfast at Flying J on 21st Street in Ogden around 11 Sunday morning that he spotted the bird, stuck there and still alive.
Officials were called in from the DNR, and they were able to remove the great horned owl.
Miraculously, it only suffered a broken wing and is expected to survive after being rehabilitated.
