WOODS CROSS — Haley Stafford scored five goals to help Woods Cross' girls soccer team open the Class 4A state tournament with a 5-2 home win over Maple Mountain on Tuesday afternoon.

Kennedy Yost assisted on four goals for Woods Cross, and Camryn Henson assisted on Stafford's final goal.

Stafford scored three goals in the first half to give the Wildcats a 3-1 advantage at the break, and she didn't let up from there.

Woods Cross plays at Skyline in a Class 4A quarterfinal Thursday at 4 p.m. MT.

Here's how the rest of the Class 4A and 5A girls soccer tournament matches finished Tuesday.

Wasatch 1, Bonneville 0 — Ella Ballstaedt broke the scoreless draw through most of two overtime periods to give host Wasatch a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Bonneville in Tuesday's first round. Torri Bills earned her 11th shutout of the season for the Wasps, which advanced to play at Alta on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Skyline 5, Corner Canyon 2 — At Skyline, Sarah Taylor scored two goals to life the Eagles by Corner Canyon.

Bella Sorensen, Emma Heyn and Katie Church also scored for the defending 4A runners up, who advanced to face Woods Cross on Thursday.

Timpview 3, Hillcrest 0 — At Timpview, Kamryn Worthington and Kathryn Wynn each scored a second-half goal to help the Thunderbirds pull away from the Huskies for the first-round victory. Hailey Fisher gave the hosts a 1-0 halftime lead with her early goal for Timpview, which will host Box Elder on Thursday.

Alta 7, Olympus 1 — At Alta, Breanna DeWaal and Breck Mozingo scored two goals apiece to help the Hawks roll by the Titans.

Heather Stainbrook, Morgan Lyman and Sam Corbett also scored for Alta, which built up a 5-0 first-half lead and cruised from there.

Anna Escobedo scored Olympus' lone goal.

Timpanogos 3, Murray 2 — At Murray, Erika Kreutzcamp, Tess Donaldson and Jadie Christenson each scored a goal apiece as the Timberwolves built up a 3-0 halftime lead and held off the Spartans on the road.

Lizzy Braby scored twice for Murray, which ran out of time against the defending 4A champion Timberwolves, who will play at East on Thursday.

East 3, Springville 1 — At East, Jill Bennett had two goals to lead the Leopards by the Red Devils on their home field.

Catherine Hill also scored for East, which held off Springville with a 2-1 edge after the first half.

Marjia Farris scored Springville's lone goal.

CLASS 5A

Herriman 7, Jordan 3 — At Jordan, Ambree Bennett and Kaylee Holt had two goals apiece to lead five goal scorers as the Mustangs routed the Beetdiggers in 5A playoff action. Cassidy Adams, Emma Lightfoot and Rachael Glober also scored for Herriman, which will play at Fremont on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Brooklyn Nielsen scored twice for Jordan, and teammate Ali Pickering added a goal.

Lone Peak 6, Bingham 0 — At Lone Peak, Cheyanne Jones' hat trick led the Knights to the shutout victory over the Miners.

Cameron Tucker added two goals for Lone Peak, which notched four goals in the first half and cruised to the win.

Natalee Wells also scored for the Knights.

Fremont 3, Layton 1 — At Fremont, Kami Hunter's brace fired the Silver Wolves by the Lancers in the opening round of the state playoffs Tuesday.

Grace Youngberg also scored for Fremont, which led Layton 2-1 at halftime.

Lehi 2, Brighton 1 (OT) — At Brighton, Taylor Takahashi and Kaylee Walton eached scored a goal to lift the Pioneers to an overtime victory over the Bengals and advance to play at Weber. Madi Jepperson scored a first-half goal for Brighton, which went into halftime tied 1-1 and forced overtime before Lehi broke the deadlock.

Mountain Crest 3, Viewmont 3 — At Viewmont, Liv Karlitschek iced the game-winning penalty kick as the Mustangs stunned the Vikings and advanced to the quarterfinals via a 4-1 shootout win.

Viewmont took the lead 1-0 in the opening minute, Mountain Crest's Kanyan Ward scored the final equalizer to knot the match at 3-3 with 5:30 left in regulation before both teams played through two scoreless overtime periods.

In other Thursday matchups at 4 p.m., Davis will host American Fork. The undefeated Darts were 5-0 victors over Northridge, while the Cavemen edged Copper Hills, 2-1.
