DALLAS — Police are trying to figure out who killed a teenage girl, who disappeared Sunday evening on her way to a church class.

The Dallas Morning News reports Zoe Hastings, 18, left home to attend a 5 p.m. class at her local LDS ward. When she didn't show up at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building, her family called police.

It wasn't until a man flagged down a driver Monday morning that Hastings' body was discovered in a creek near her crashed car.

"He just waved me down and said that there was a girl down there that needed help," Joe Noriega told KXAS-TV, a news station in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

After finding Hastings, Noriega called police. But by then the man who flagged him down had disappeared.

"He left ... and he just seemed out of place," Noriega said. "I really hope it's not — he's not the guy that did this."

Police have released few details about the crime but said Hastings' death was the result of "obvious homicidal violence," according to the Dallas Morning News. The investigation into her death is ongoing.
