TAYLORSVILLE — A Taylorsville street and home were flooded after a teenage driver crashed into a fire hydrant, causing the water main to break Friday, police said.

The 17-year-old driver hit the fire hydrant at 3238 W. 5620 South in Taylorsville just before 12:10 p.m., according to Lt. Lex Bell of the Unified Police Department. Police said the teenager initially fled the scene, but a witness saw the car's license plate so investigators were able to locate the driver.

The crash "sheared off" the fire hydrant and broke the water main at that location, according to Bell. He said the water flooded the street and flowed into the garage of a nearby home. Some damage was done to the home before the water was shut off.

The driver was not injured during the accident, but will likely face charges, Bell said.
