LAYTON — A man who police say attempted to kidnap, duct tape and assault a former girlfriend was arrested over the weekend.

Christopher Lee Monson, 27, of Layton, was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, rape and forcible sodomy.

Friday night, a woman who had recently broken off a relationship with Monson went to his house to drop off a credit card, said Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman. The woman went by the house at a time Monson allegedly claimed he wouldn't be home.

"As she opened the door to set the credit card inside, between the two doors, the suspect opened the door and grabbed her," he said.

Monson pulled the woman into the house and "attempted to restrain her with duct tape," Lyman said.

As the woman struggled with Monson and attempted to get away, he was eventually able to get all of her clothes off, according to the lieutenant. Detectives still weren't completely sure Monday what Monson was planning to do.

We don't know what his ultimate intentions were, he would not talk with us. We don't know what his ultimate plan was. But with the duct tape and the severity of the assault he attempted on her, it wasn't good.

"We don't know what his ultimate intentions were, he would not talk with us," Lyman said. "We don't know what his ultimate plan was. But with the duct tape and the severity of the assault he attempted on her, it wasn't good."

During the estimated 15 to 20 minutes the woman struggled with the man, her car was left running in the driveway with an infant inside. The woman was able to convince Monson to let her go to her car to check on the baby.

Wearing only a blanket wrapped around her, the woman went to the car and quickly drove away, Lyman said. She drove a couple of blocks and called police. When officers arrived at the house, they reported that Monson had ingested numerous pills in an apparent suicide attempt. He was treated at a local hospital before being booked into jail.

The woman suffered minor physical injuries, Lyman said.
